Meta deliberately provokes that kind of stuff since rage baiting is good for engagement. They’ve cultivated and minmaxed that kind of behaviour for years. I’m sure it exists in small pockets here already, but nowhere near the same level.

Do you honestly think only the positive, friendly people would hop over? The entire fediverse will be overrun by crazy political conspiracy theories and hostile homophobic/transphobic/anti abortion stuff in no time.
Lemmy doesn’t need to be #1 in popularity. I’d prefer it to split and maintain a higher level of quality, even if it’s smaller as a result. Even if Meta can grab data either way, it should be disconnected on principle.
Separating the two sounds like it would make the problem a lot worse. Nobody would have a reason to create smaller duplicate communities anymore so things would end up centralised and easier to abuse, like what happened with Reddit. You could hop your account to a new instance, but doing so means nothing if there’s only one instance of the community.
I’m new to lemmy so I might be wrong on this, but say if we have one big community for a certain hobby/interest and the moderators get power trippy or there are other problems, people into that hobby essentially have nowhere to go right? Having lots of smaller places and subscribing to them all makes it easier to cut one out and be less reliant on a specific group of people.
Honestly a big part of it was a result of not having instant access to the internet to check every little thing as it came up. I remember being super confused trying to find piscine livers for one of the 2* quests, and not always knowing how to find or combine for certain crafting materials so a lot of weapon upgrades were inaccessible. I’d just do gathering runs hoarding everything I could find and hope for the best lol.
The private servers are amazing. It’s great finally being able to experience Frontier, and the private server for Tri only opened a few days ago so there are plenty of players on fresh accounts. Not sure if I can link the discord servers for them here, but they should be easy to find through google and the setup guides are all in there. MH1 and Tri both work on original hardware too.
Gen 1/2 dual blades were precision weapons, surprisingly. You were rooted to the spot and locked into animations a lot more than in later games, without the benefit of constant stunlocking like you’d get with GS or hammer. You often couldn’t reach weakpoints either, so they were all about carefully chipping at the feet to get trips and then going ham for a few seconds after they topple. Very fun weapons, but mashing would get you killed quickly.
I hop weapons a lot, but always fall back on SnS. For the longest time I avoided SnS since it was treated by the community back then as a weak beginner weapon and something players upgrade from once they learn how to play, but I love its versatility. It’s the most comfortable for me when learning new fights due to its speed and precision, and there are always tons of weapons to build and play with since raw/element/status are all viable. Wide range para SnS when playing with friends is always fun.
My ex at the time picked up Freedom 2 not long after launch, and I asked him about it after seeing it sat on his shelf. He gave me it to keep since he got so frustrated with the controls and not knowing what to do, but I fell in love. I sucked at the game, but would spend hours gathering materials and building new gear to try out. Since then I’ve played all of the localised games, as well as fan translations and the recent private servers for 1/Tri and Frontier. Can’t wait to try out the online for Dos too.
I love the colour. It looks like Dr. Seuss soup haha
