  • Putin's good friend and fellow enjoyer of underage kids Berlusconi also had great faith in organ transplanting to live forever. Leukemia decided not to care about his opinion tho.

  • Trump 🤝 Putin Turning yesterday's friends into today's rivals.

Pooty now has soured previously cordial relations with Azerbaijan like that, and Armenia began to distance itself from Russia too.

Orange has that with... well... almost everyone.

  • Fun fact: Xi today couldn't be assed to greet Pooty personally at an airport and sent deputy finance minister instead.

Compare that to how Taco Don received Pooty.

  • Ceasefire is a matter of just one order to be issued, and Russia purposefully avoids that and instead proposes to first cede Donbass and then have "peace talks".

One has to be an utter idiot to not see through that, and unfortunately there's no shortage of these.

  • It will also be mandatory that from September 1, Russia's domestic app store, RuStore, which is pre-installed on all Android devices, will be pre-installed on Apple devices.
A Russian-language TV app called LIME HD TV, which allows people to watch state TV channels for free, will be pre-installed on all smart TVs sold in Russia from January 1, the government added.
The push to promote homegrown apps comes after Russia said this month it had started restricting some calls on WhatsApp, owned by Meta Platforms (META.O), opens new tab, and on Telegram, accusing the foreign-owned platforms of failing to share information with law enforcement in fraud and terrorism cases.

There have been jokes about potential establishment of Russian version of Kwangmyong years ago, maybe even decades, called "Cheburnet" (after Cheburashka - Soviet stop-motion cartoon character), and it seems like they're actually pretty close to finally sealing off from outer world.

  • White House has now basically become a museum of trashy anyway. Next sane person in charge, if ever, will be having a hard time removing all those tasteless golden ornaments.

  • Exactly in years mentioned there most notable example would be Bahais - largest non-Muslim minority in Iran. What was done to them? - well, they were being killed, although I won't be able to point exact ratio in overall number of victims in that massacre (~2500), but massacre was generally directed at minorities.

While Iran is an asshole and regularly gets its own people regularly disappeared or executed for any signs of dissent - minorities are targeted disproportionately, be it Kurds, Arabs or Baluchis, with 2022 riots, for example, being situated mainly in Kurdish regions.

United Nations Human Rights report on the matter

  • I'd argue that what happened right after Islamic revolution back in '81-82 was going really close to genocide, with all that "purification from non-Islamic elements". And "non-Islamic" in Middle East almost always means some cultural minority.

  • Perfect answer would be:

USA is a very big power, and Vietnam is not.

  • That'd be an insult to Chamberlain tho, as he was still quite competent in domestic politics, laid foundation to welfare state etc.

  • We seem to be very near the bleak choice between War and Shame. My feeling is that we shall choose Shame, and then have War thrown in a little later on even more adverse terms than at present.

    • Churchill, probably rolling in his grave right now.
  • Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, is not part of the delegation.

Of course he isn't, he was excluded from any talks with Russia for few months already due to being "pro-Ukrainian".

    1. Marginalize anything even slightly left of centre.
    2. Go rightward trying to chirp off electorate off your rival alt-right party.
    3. Observe entire national political spectrum shifting so far to the right, that European centrists become extreme left by your standards.
  • Dunno, different ghouls, like Jeffrey Bezos for example, seem to be preparing their doomsday bunkers, so he could get his medal proudly awarded to him in picturesque nuclear wasteland after it'll be safe to emerge from underground.

  • Should still note the irony of the situation of Suitcase Shitter being hosted at US military base. Man has been blaming US for all Russia's woes, with propagandists barking at how they'd turn American soil to ashes, and now he's gonna be a guest to American military.

  • Considering Budapest memorandum I absolutely resent USA as they were very enthusiastic about pressuring Ukraine to give up its armaments. And guess to whom the armaments were given? - Yeah, to Russia - missiles, bombers, and other shit that Russia uses to terrorize us today.

As of Pooty and breaking of agreements - he enters negotiations when he's at disadvantage and breaks them whenever he gains back enough strength to ignore consequences of breaking his promises. That's why it's very important to not remove sanctions against Russia entirely even if they actually agree to let Ukraine have it's 1991 borders back. Their evils should never be forgiven or forgotten.

  • As someone had put it earlier - Pooty tries to trade territories that he can't conquer for promise of not trying to conquer other territories he also can't conquer.

So it's really important that if Taco Don will actually go to listen to Pooty's lecture about Pechenegs and other linguistic diarrhea both of them like to spew all the time - that the former will go there with no expectation that Ukraine will accept demands it didn't for previous 3 years.

  • Directly coordinated with the Stasi

Nah, he was kinda nobody as KGB agent, sitting his ass off in some dusty cabinet, and then upon end of his duty in Germany, going home and, ironically, taking only a washing machine with himself. If USSR continued to exist - he'd be nothing out of ordinary retiree, because security agents were not allowed into ruling class.

But, to DDR's credit - there are governmental practices in modern Russia, absolutely inspired by DDR - such as having one "ruling" party in parliament and few "clown" parties to imitate democracy.

So I'd rather see that as a meeting of two old losers, because Putin rules Russia like Trump ran his casino.

  • You know, it would actually make sense for "global South" countries to be in some organization and look out for each other, and I hate so much how BRICS pretends to be just that, especially with Russia and China.

  • Political Memes @lemmy.world

To be honest, I'm a bit insulted
