  • Tell me more about how democrats are not like republicans. How they're not owned by the billionaires. How they didn't deport people. How they implemented medical care for all. How they codified Roe.

    This is not "both sides" but quite the opposite - there's a good and progressive side (top of the stick) and a depraved and evil side (bottom of the stick). While the parties differ in their demeanor (e.g. civility, rule of law), their goals are quite similar, which is why both are at the same position on the political spectrum.

  • There's a lot of assumptions in your angry reply - and you should be angry. Just not at principled progressives, among them a lot of POC and queer folks, who did not vote for a party that never really did anything for them. You should try to overcome your naivete and accept the obvious - that this current development was inevitable with a Democratic party that is only different from Republicans in the sense that they keep up an act of civility that only ever applies to conservatives. Just look how vile the party establishment attacks Mamdani but had no problems compromising with, and clapping for Trump.

    Stop attacking leftists and start forming coalitions (but this time NOT with blue conservatives), because the time when you had the luxury to do so has passed.

  • This is why the Democratic Party sucks so bad. The never offered people something to vote for. They didn't even offer something harmless - they only ever offered to drive off a cliff more slowly. When in power, they never did anything against the DHS, the MIC, ICE, the Patriot Act. They didn't even talk about fighting landlords, the bosses, the rich. The Dems even refused police reform, instead increasing budgets. The only thing the party elites ever fought fiercely is Bernie Sanders and the progressive caucus.

    The Democratic Party is just as much to blame for Trump as the GOP. Stop blaming progressives for this miserable one party state - start holding your politicians accountable.

  • Are you by chance from the US? Because other countries have sensible zoning laws and public transit, making cars for families not a necessity but a luxury. Where I live, nobody needs a car. Shopping is done by cargo bike or hand cart, family trips are taken by train or metro.

    If you live in a stupid country tho people might depend on cars.

    You don't meet them too often, but the ones I met were nice people.

    Did the URSS create famines?

    Famines in the USSR were caused by a multitude of factors - drought and (civil) war being the most prominent. The war was brought to the USSR by outside forces - the whites where financed by the UK and the US, WWII was brought to the USSR by Germany. So famine in the USSR was created by western forces more than anything.

    After 1947 there were no known famines. Since famines were a regular occurrence before we can conclude that the Soviets effectively ended famines in their territory by then.

  • This is so true, especially since the Democatic party does the same things the GOP does, just a little more civil. The Biden admin sent bombs to Israel, persecuted striking workers and refused to codify Roe vs. Wade (amongst a ton of other things). Both parties are bought by billionaires and act in their interest, I don't get how anyone could justify voting dems over third party
