The only conservative policies that aren’t a smokescreen for their desire to oppress others are the conservative policies that openly display their desire to oppress others.

Edit- I thought that would only be the gifts and small penis gag as per the article. Will replace with a better clip if I can find one.

  • We're over here thinking the NRA has noticed how much flack they still get for the Mulford Act, which was the previous time they collaborated to take second amendment rights away from a marginalized group.

  • The NRA is all "motherfuckers still calling us out about the Mulford Act (which was also Republicans targeting marginalized gun owners), we're not making that mistake again..."

  • But, but, due process would take too much time... (that's what their excuse for ICE is)

  • I like to imagine we are witnessing malicious compliance from the model.

  • I love that the only AI goal the oligarchy can focus on is making sure we can all use it to work more.

  • I totally respect you for that. 🙂

But, FWIW, I don't look at my refusal to engage with them as being a victim (though I admit in reality I'll be among the last group in Trump's camps unless he locks people up for rhetoric - and also that may not have been what you meant), I look at it as standing on my right to not allow toxicity in my life.

When I was a wimpy kid I didn't have a choice. Now I'm an I-don't-give-a-fuck middle aged man, and I very much enjoy controlling who gets my attention and time. I find it supremely liberating. :)

  • You can do this, it just takes more direct interaction and being more involved and social.

I'm old and gen-x. I hail from the time of no gay marriage and unintegrated schools. My generation was born while interracial marriage was still not federally legal.

The same people who are maga now have been spreading the same kind of hatred for decades. The first time it impacted me personally was when I had the audacity to play D&D as a teen while living in the bible belt. There's a personality type (or three) that is a throughline across the entire span of my life, no matter where I've lived, no matter which decade we're talking about, that is exactly the sort of person who is now a maga. I would bet that I could reliably tell you which people I haven't spoken to in twenty years are maga now to a high degree of accuracy.

If we really, really wanted to change them and make them start aligning with truth, we have to change their emotional narratives, not dismissing them.

I've had a lifetime of dealing with these exact same people, either talking with them, arguing with them, or being targeted by them. The social changes conservatives were pushing for (or resisting) in 1988 are entirely compatible with what Trump is doing now, and I don't for one moment believe that any larger fraction of them would have resisted him back then than have now. We have landed exactly where they were always driving us, they were just being more polite and cagey about it most of the time.

I'm years into dismissing them, and that ain't changing. They can wallow in their own ignorance and hate. They already put modern hitler in power, and he ain't ever leaving except in cuffs or a box, so what is the high water mark I'm trying to prevent now? Let them ride the wreckage they have created into the ground with the rest of us. I'm not going to hold their hand on the way down.

    Edit:

Side-note: Look, I'm not even going to draw any conclusions from this, you can do it yourself.

  • This is actually much more plausible than my theory. Thanks for the reminder! :D

I'm really starting to wonder if this is the issue that reminded MTG she's a human being though.

Republican Says They’re Being “Threatened” if They Vote to Release the Epstein Files

  • I guess that's what 10 years of uncritically supporting a fascist narcissist gets you, Republicans. Womp-womp.

If any of you were decent people I might feel bad. Now we're all going to be fucked first for the fact that you propped him up in the first place, and now for the fact that you still can't grow a spine and accept whatever you've been threatened with as the cost of doing the right thing.

There were three Republican leaders who stood up to trump. You all tarred and feathered them. (Which they likely deserved, but not for that.)

  • especially as the women on the right decide that they don’t want to be chattel.

    This has to happen first.

Since this political cartoon aged like cheese (and I'm as surprised as anyone by that) I don't think a streak of independence in conservative women is going to be driving the sexbot industry anytime soon.

  • If I click this, am I again going to find that "maga turns on Republicans" is again just three or four angry magas on Truth Social or X?

  • For context, I'm fucking old.

I was registered independent for literally my entire life until the trump years began. Then I registered D, only to then witness what is now commonly touted - D fights at least as hard against progressive Democrats as they do against conservative Republicans, sometimes harder. (Witness Mamdani/Cuomo, Pelosi knifing AOC in the back to get her version of "youth" into power - a 74 year old terminally ill boomer - Nancy is silent generation afterall, etc etc, etc.)

I considered changing back to independent after watching Kamala campaign real hard for Republican votes, and especially after David Hogg's exit, because it's pretty clear to me that they haven't learned a fucking thing, and since I know they are all smart people, part of me is starting to seriously consider the "they are fighting exactly as hard as they want to" angle.

But I'm going to wait until I see who they put into the presidential primary, and until I see how that primary is conducted.

Having said all that, Kamala was my last vote for a conservative Democrat. I need to see progressive voices being platformed and progressive policies being seriously considered, or else I'll be switching back to Independent after this next one. (Assuming we keep getting elections, of course.)

We've made it all the way to modern-day Hitler with D returning to the well of "but Republicans are evil, you have to vote for us" over and over and over. They can't ratchet up the fear tactics any further. We've hit the ceiling. They pulled the "vote for us or Hitler will win" card, then Hitler won. They can't dangle something worse than that in front of us next time. So they will have to compete on something better than the other party being the party of Hitler.

If conservative or "centrist" Democrats who aren't Hitler continues to be all they know how to sell, I'm done buying. And I wish I'd learned this lesson decades ago.

That's a very lengthy way to say "I'm not fucking surprised." But also, I think there's a decent chunk of likely D voters who have always been registered I, and I also think it's pretty clear after the last election that a good chunk of D is sending a vote of no confidence to the party.

I'd love to see Florida flip blue, but this is the state that put DeSantis in power. I'm not sure florida becoming more red is surprising nor any kind of bellwether.
