  • Yep, same day they'll complain about Ubisoft and then pre-order the next Assassin's Creed

  • Too late, Kennedy's. Reputation: in tatters.

  • Yeah and it only took evolution (checks notes) 4 billion years to go from nothing to a brain valuable to humans.

I'm not so sure there will be a fast return in any economic timescale on the money investors are currently shovelling into AI.

We have maybe 500 years (tops) to see if we're smart enough to avoid causing our own extinction by climate change and biodiversity collapse - so I don't think it's anywhere near as clear cut.

  • Thanks for sharing the story. Sure feels racist that the countries that US special forces are nonchalant about murdering innocent civilians in seem to all be non-white.

  • Speak for yourself. He's done way more wrong than me

  • They've been taught to shoot first check later for many decades. They know that anyone they kill will be marked as a combatant later - we're only hearing about this story at all because some Navy / intelligence staff involved want people to hear the story so they don't, "underestimate the extreme risks that American forces undertake."

Now to me - a humble nobody - it sure seems that while the Seals did take risks of course (lives on the line) - they signed up and worked hard at the chance to take those risks. The far wider and more serious risk was igniting nuclear war or similar huge conflict with South Korea though no fault of the South Koreans. Fuck the "we need people to hear this so they know we're risking our lives" shit. People need to hear this because it's illegal and dangerous and shouldn't happen at all.

  • The consumer has spoken and they don't care, not even for 4K. Same as happened with 3D and curved TVs, 8K is a solution looking for a problem so that more TVs get sold.

In terms of physical media - at stores in Australia the 4K section for Blurays takes up a single rack of shelves. Standard Blurays and DVDs take up about 20.

Even DVDs still sell well because many consumers don't see a big difference in quality, and certainly not enough to justify the added cost of Bluray, let alone 4K editions. A current example, Superman is $20 on DVD, $30 on Bluray (50% cost increase) or $40 on 4K (100%) cost increase. Streaming services have similar pricing curves for increased fidelity.

It sucks for fans of high res, but it's the reality of the market. 4K will be more popular in the future if and when it becomes cheaper, and until then nobody (figuratively) will give a hoot about 8K.

  • Check out Wikipedia's many articles on imperial Japan's invasions of China and Korea. Relations are still frosty I believe primarily because Japan's (mostly conservative) leadership has been steadfast in refusing to acknowledge the vast majority of wrongdoings of the past with respect to China and Korea.

  • Great movie. It was the first I bought on DVD back when it was a new and expensive format, because I saw there was a Desperado / El Mariachi double-sided DVD available for the same price as other DVDs I was considering. Novel to me as it waa the only double-sided DVD I'd ever seen, side A El Mariachi, side B Desperado.

Totally recommend checking out the Desperado DVD commentary by Rodriguez if you're a fan, especially if a filmmaker - as he discusses a fair bit of tradecraft. I might be misremembering a couple bits as i watched it a long time ago, but from memory he's still riding a high on his career taking off and gushes in most of it talking about the great actors involved and fun moments everyone had making the movie, even though it was stressful for him as his first big production. One of the things that stuck in my mind was that he pointed out they only used two stunt doubles to save money, so every stunt jump / fall / explosion was the same two guys in different costume - including a dress. He then points out which is which in several scenes.

(Pic nabbed from eBay so I didn't have to rifle through my DVDs).

  • Yep that's absolutely not what people are talking about when they say 'climate change' in this context, they mean anthropogenic climate change, and you know it. Your bad faith response shows you have no interest in an honest discussion.

  • Absolutely. "But muh history!", history doesn't require works of adulation to evil men be preserved physically to learn from them. Do they think paintings and statues of Hitler are just stored away at the back of museums in Germany? That shit is long destroyed by the allies at the end of the war. There were far too many efforts made to appease the southern states at the end of the war, and you can trace a solid line between those failures and many issues faced now.

  • They gotta deep throat the fascist regime so that they keep getting invited to the press events and thus keep making those shiny dollars.

    Yes, it is pathetic.

  • Who said it was a solid door? Could be a screen door or a door with a window pane.

Occam's razor the problem instead of looking for a conspiratorial or nefarious solution when there's no reason to.

  • Right here, this is fine with me.

The US was incredibly stupid to not demand shares in the US banks when they had them over a barrel and crapping themselves in 2008 - and instead gave them tens of billions of interest-free loans and literal handouts. Capitalism, right up until the companies that are 'too big to fail' go belly-up and fuck the entire world economy with their stupid decisions, then its, "oh can we please have some socialism? No, we will not agree to any public ownership or shares lol .. And no there can be no strings attached - wtf we deserve those executive bonuses this year - just give us the money. Thx plebs! Thoughts and prayers for your mortgage".

  • Ok so number 1, this post is not a meme and should be deleted by a mod as it breaks the stated rules of the community. There are plenty of other communities that this could be posted to.

2 this seems fairly normal according to all the interviewed officials except Pam Bondi, Marjorie Traitor Greene, and other R's who are trying to tar this as a (((deep state))) / liberal/Democratic AG action. I'm personally careful about jumping on their bandwagon, even if its related to a state official of a criminal government (Likud) that's currently committing a genocide.

Interviewees all state this is the standard bail for this crime in Las Vegas, others charged also posted bail and none submitted their passport. It is not uncommon for people charged to return to their home country if the US has an extradition treaty with them (as the US does with Israel).

  • *Few more billion.

I sometimes wonder if silicon valley tech businesses in general will take a reputation hit with investors when this bubble bursts, it's gonna be a doozy.

But then I remember how many greedy idiots there are out there pumping money into grifts in the hope of The Big Win, and my expectations of consequences are tempered.

  • Less science (pasteurization? Disgusting, sounds foreign) = more nature (*god made everything perfect, like childhood leukaemia *) = more better.

    These people are not complicated.

This particular woman blames the company, because the milk being labeled "for animal consumption only" wasn't a big enough clue for her that she shouldn't feed it to her toddler. She's not taking any responsibility whatsoever and will continue to do dumb shit.

  • Sorry, corporations are only legally 'people' when it suits them - like when paying bribes contributing to SuperPACs and lobbying. If it doesn't suit them, like with crimes, then suddenly.. nobody is responsible.
