Are Swartz and Ohanian still around? Are they all trying to cash in?
I can understand wanting to get retirement money out of your long-term project, but we’re not obliged to stick around and assist in the degradation of a once-great platform.
Did spez create reddit or did they just hire him?
Yeah I had to abandon some of my favorite VSTs when I moved to Linux. I should just get a new PC with windows… But not this year.
I’ll look it up, thanks.
Edit:
Zorin pro actually looks interesting. I wonder if they do the kind of system configurations that musnix and ubuntu studio do.
I am a web dev, does that count? I haven’t done much scripting as part of running an os. What kind of situations in nix require a dev’s touch?
Either way Im looking it up. Sounds interesting.
Edit:
Okay, I see now. NixOS is the OS but this software is a git repo that wouldn’t make much sense to non-devs.
I never heard of gentoo studio. Im looking into it now and it looks like a decent possible alternative.
I want to run a DAW like Reaper, with multiple midi tracks playing through vst instruments. I had no problem doing that on windows 7 with my 4th gen i7 processor and 16GB of RAM, so my 8th gen processor should be able to handle it. But it’s a “power saving” processor that actually benchmarks very close to my old 4th gen, so I do want to keep the OS and desktop environment light.
Edit:
I see gentoo studio isnt listed on distrowatch, but you can get it theough his site.
I should try that. Skip the hours of grinding. It always felt like cheating, but it would let you really focus on the design.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
This was just a groundbreaking game. I know the graphics aren’t as nice as Skyrim, but the world has more depth and the guilds are all full games in themselves.
Such a big open world, fully populated with flora and mystical fauna (Minotaurs and unicorns), an endless supply of side-quests.
Oblivion destroys Skyrim in the following places:
So are they going to hire people to mod all those subs?
Okay. I keep reading about docker. What’s the difference between a docker and just installing an app on rented server space?
Does each dock (?) have its own server? (Apache or nginx or whatever?)
Does each dock host a whole site, or do you have a dock for your database and a dock for your web app?
I use Podcast Addict on Android (both phone and tablet) and it’s excellent. I’m using the paid version so it’s ad-free. It has a good set of widgets too. Five stars.
I used to use Podkicker Pro, but the paid version started showing ads. So I switched to Podcast Addict Pro and it’s excellent.
Okay somebody quickly code up a free alternative to Linux
Only a brand would think in terms of favorite brands.
