This is the kind of Big One I made the community for! Even if you’re not that into slightly-spooky shooters I’d recommend everyone who even slightly likes video games give this a play, it’s really quite an important piece of history.

I’ve never played a Castlevania game, would this be a good place to start?

What about it do you think is generated? The assets or the whole game?

Despite the wall of text I pasted above, this is a very simple arcade game: you can move left or right, and you need to avoid things and collect coins. Looks nice and has a jazzy space soundtrack, my only complaint is that it’s a bit on the easy side.

This looks cute. Also the whole game is like 4MB, which is quite impressive!

Oh yeah I did that a while ago so I forgot, but yeah I think that’s the case for everyone. Ultimately I think Steam explicitly tells you what info they get and it isn’t that much, but that’s the “price” for a free game.

No worries if it’s not for you though, if your Lemmy client lets you block posts you can set up a filter for Fanatical and you shouldn’t see any more giveaways like this.

What are your combos of choice? I remember having a few good ones committed to memory at the time.

Yeah it wouldn’t install on my phone but would on my old tablet, I wonder if it’s 32-bit only.

Fun fact with these Fanatical giveaways, you don’t actually even need to sign up (and immediately cancel) their newsletter, you get the Steam key and then they send you an email saying ‘please click here to complete your sign-up’ or something, which you can safely ignore!

Let me know if there are any good ones! I aim to have an afternoon of trying out a bunch of these sort of games on the Steam Deck every now and again but it’s usually too far after the post to be worth adding any comments.

I enjoyed it solo, though it did become impossibly hard at one point. I don’t know if you need to have friends to help or if I just needed to be better at the game!
