  • it's how I sanitize all my inputs from unknown devices :-)

  • Hmm! Good to know there's some hope with the size of fibre modems

  • I thought this was going to be an Archenemy cover of a Manowar song

  • Woah... I had never heard of SFP slots/devices before. It looks like they're great at converting between mediums. If I could get an SFP device that had RJ45 output, that would be the dream

  • Siemens 5200

That's a chunky house warmer, let alone shelf warmer!

I can understand that ISP's need to protect their security (through obscurity) so that no one's going around cloning their neighbors analog signals to score free internet... but surely the actual hardware to do the tone pairing / channel matching analog-to-digital-magic-mumbo-jumbo does not need to be the size of a brick?

In the spirit of people cutting open Nintendo Wii's shearing down the chip and making compact versions[0], has no one isolated the hardware on a modem, chucked out the routing stuff, and compacted the whole device to be no bigger than a USB stick?

Smallest modem I can put into bridge mode and feed into a router?

  • Abolish FPTP, and I might consider voting for you. That's it. That's the only power you wield right now

  • OOTL, whats the connection?

  • (I have been hit multiple times, car doored to the nose, and cycled 40km a day for several years in london roads back before cycle lanes were common, and routinely appeared at work with bloodied knuckles -- just in case that somehow validates my comment more)

I don't think drivers seek to run down cyclists, only that a lot of them were taught to drive at a time that did not accomodate for them when they took their driving test.

Granted that cars are far higher, larger, and more powerful now and likely do pose more of a threat. I just think jumping down someone's throat for a no harm no foul situation breeds only bitterness between the types of road users who must ultimately co-exist.

Even more so when you remember that cyclists do not have mandatory insurance and do not pay road tax, nor do we have license plates or have to take a road-worthiness test. We expect to be treated like first class citizens on the road only because we are more vulnerable road users, not because we pay for it as other road users do

  • I'll play devils advocate here and say that I have once seen a taxi driver slightly boop a cyclist at traffic lights (the car rolled forward slightly and touched the cyclists wheel) who then moved slightly forward and raised his hand casuallly at the driver to say "no biggie". Another cyclist then wheels back to the drivers window and just screams bloody murder at him.

Like, I get it - he should be more attentive - but the response from the other cyclist was disproportionate

  • oh sorry it was not my intent to dehumanize them. I thought illegals was a valid contraction of illegal migrants

  • Not all of them want your loved ones dead, some of them are just scared of change and are listening to the loudest voice in the room promising them stability (and/or lies)

  • No, I feel that the dangers that regular people face everyday should be talked about more. I just don't think that the rich and powerful, who are class predators of a sort, should be viewed as victims of society with the same attention as those who are victims of both.

If a sheep gets mauled by a bear - sound the main alarm.
If the wolf, that hunts the sheep, gets mauled by a bear - sound a different alarm.

  • I agree, hence why I suggest giving them passports the moment they touch soil

  • I can't work out if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me

  • She had a hard life. All of them had really hard lives. I'm so glad we have round the clock coverage on them

  • The vitriolic worst ones yes. The quiet complacent ones might be rescueable

  • I think that decorating my words more to assay the feelings those who cannot parse intent would be a race to the bottom that wouldn't help anyone

  • I'm so strongly opposed to illegals undercutting the working class in this country, that I think we should give them all passports so that they're legally entitled to minimum wage and thus offer no competitive advantage to greedy employers
