Maher’s a scab, no surprise to anyone paying attention to him.

Yeah. He’s also despised by most of his peers, so it’s not like he can join anyone in raising money for his staff - like the daily talk show hosts who started a podcast to raise money for staff salaries.

It’s not supposed to be easy, it’s a strike.

      Fucking Scab Maher, lol…

I like Maher, but he definitely doesn’t have a track record of supporting fellow guild members.

But he won’t lose much, he’s rich and probably at the tail end of his career tbh. There aren’t a lot of future benefits he’ll be missing out on if he’s kicked out of SAG or the WGA.

I also think his more extreme views make him tough to cast for larger roles, nowadays.

I don’t find his views extreme, nor do I think that perception would keep him from getting roles (Chris Pratt and Zachary Levi have been able to get roles, for example). But I don’t think he wants to act at all. Wouldn’t be shocked to see him want to write though.

I was really happy not hearing Maher’s name for, like, 2-3 months.

    Dammit.

I wonder, he usually has guests, most of them are probably part of SAG or the WGA, I assume the quality of his show is going to tank (f on where it already was)

This isn’t the first time talk shows resumed without writers. The quality last time was absolutely terrible.

The irony though is that last time it helped resolve the strike. Letterman, who owns his own production company, struck a separate deal with the union. That meant that his show was the only one with writers, and it put a ton of pressure on his peers. But most of them were large, corporate production companies, so they had to swallow terms they didn’t like.

Man is afraid people will realize he’s no longer relevant. In effort to avoid this, he gives proof of irrelevance.

I highly doubt this. He gave a good reason to scab, even if I disagree with his decision.

Did he though? I bet the staff wouldn’t be struggling so much if he paid them more in the first place. Nvm there’s plenty of other ways to help your staff as proven by others.

Yeah, I’m sure he’s doing it for the lowest paid people on his show, not too fill his bank account or anything… I’m sure he’s paid a similar amount to all of his staff /s

People struggle when they don’t get paid due to not working. This shouldn’t be surprising. “Just pay them more” doesn’t work here unless you want everyone to be getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for every job, at which point inflation goes to 100% a year and you end up paying $5000 for an apple.

Writers, the ones complaining, get paid a shitload for their work. They get paid $100k for about 7 weeks work…and they want more… and they’ve somehow convinced the public who earn significantly less than them to stand up for them and fight to make them more money lol. One of the best grifts of all time tbh.
