Welp it’s July 1st, and I actually had to move from lemmy.world over to lem.ee because that instance is being verryyy overloaded right now, lol.

I’m very new to Lemmy too and I already adore it. I’m really hoping to see lots of the Linux related subs become more prominent over here.

I know it’s unlikely but ask historians, the moderation required is unreal. More realistic would be bestofredditorupdates for all the mindless drama reading.

There was some decent discussion about it, the mods seem to feel the reach is just way too small. Personally I’d love to see a curated ask lemmy instance (ask historians, ask anthropology, etc). I tried to pitch this to one of the main subreddit mods (I forget his name and can’t login to reddit via rif anymore to see, but it is something like Gregor K Rasmun (not that but starts with a G I think and had a middle initial) and we had a bit of a back and forth but seems like no dice, mostly due to reach. They do have a website and podcast at least.

A lot of fandom-specific subs! With the typical main sub/meme sub/nsfw sub trinity, I’ve seen the main subs show up here with minimal activity while the meme and nsfw subs are nowhere to be seen. A lot of the big default subs have come here, but the fandom-based subs just exist as tiny communities with several thousand times less subscribers and nowhere near enough content to regularly show up on my subscribed feed.

    Redneck engineering

Boring dystopia, lost generation, anti-money memes, class consciousness memes itp.

Surreal memes, void memes, deepfried surreal memes, 5’th world pics itp.

r/Writingprompts, I loved many of the short stories people posted there.

HFY. I just love the idea or rather the genre I guess? I also would love to see the old content archived. There are some treasures in there, I would hate for that to get lost.

Would love to see /r/dota2 move, but the mods there are overwhelmingly against it, and the people are split 50/50. !dota2@lemm.ee is almost exclusively populated by me

    • Art communities (all the inputs to 'imaginary best of) although Mastodon (#MastoArt) is amazing for art
    • Wholesome communities - I saw ActualLesbians had moved here; not sure about witches vs patriarchy
    • Shitposting communities like Non-credible defense and vexillologycirclejerk. Anarchy chess is here already.
    • Photography communities - I see we have /raining and squabbles.io has the sky photography already

I miss r/VXJunkies and r/ThePack… I saw a community over here called VX Junkies but it seems more about hacking.

I need specialized communities for specific types of cat pictures. The Internet is a series of tubes and they should be filled with cats like they’ve always been.

Also game-specific subs. Those two categories were the majority of my Reddit usage.
