  • Can you give some context?

But saying that Orc and Drow are biologically evil feel like good old racism. The whole Drow let's take a nice race and make an evil dark-skinned version of them way more problematic than the Drow is blackface debate

  • Hot take, we'll get zero pilot faster than single pilot.

  • Stabber, think Scream with student partying a house during a snowstorm and suddenly one of them is killed.

There is something in the spaceship, think Alien also works better in one shot

Actually, most horror games work better in one shot because nobody believes in monsters and if you see one you want to run away, not hurt them

  • I don't get how US stock market pretends China isn't bringing global competitors.

BYD is taking a huge market share on the EV, Temu takes a big market share on e-commerce but both Tesla and Amazon keep growing

  • Wings

    Jump
  • With the marvel of modern engineering, they do pretty compact wings able to carry 80kg humans, https://youtu.be/ilx8Ch0eOR4 (Sorry for sharing marketing video)

So in a fantasy world, you could imagine so compact wing part of human body

  • Wings

    Jump
  • Most Larp I know have some rules about loosing memory when being dead or even unconscious. It kills the fun for everyone to just ask the victim who killed them.

I am surprised that D&D and clones didn't remove all the spell which shortcut investigation it's like removing the fun part of the game

  • Obligatory reminder that you actually don't need token to play RPG :)

That said, I understand the appeal, especially on VTT where you can't keep eye contact with other players.

The first option are generic tokens, can be the default one from your VTT, or simple colour.

Then, while not ethically great, have a look at deviant art, Pinterest and other image sharing websites. You'll find many ressources some are even published on open source like licence.

Even someone as unskilled as I am can use, The Gimp to turn an image into a token, it's overkill, but I am not going to look for a dedicated specialised app

  • Lighthearted has an interesting emotion mechanic.

At the start of a scene, you describe your current emotion. Then, when rolling you choose an emotion based on how you describe the action and the closer it is from your current emotions, the higher dice you roll. However, it'll make your emotional state shift. And if you roll your current emotion you gain stress.

While it's pretty interesting, it let a lot of room for negotiation between PC and GM which isn't always great compared to games with tighter rules

  • Death is only the beginning.Kult

Death is a disease, cure it Eclipse phase

  • Stupid characters (but actually not that stupid) are actually pretty fun. And technically speaking, necromancer are just late physician

  • I use the following term from LARP into table-top

Bleed to talk about how in game drama impacts your emotion, it's usually positive, but need clear discussion to not end-up in horror stories

Black box for flashback/workshop where you roleplay something happening before the actual game. It can be used either to clarify link between characters (especially in one shot) or be used in games like Blades in the Dark to have PC jumping to action directly and doing the preparation latter

Then the obvious IC/OOC to clarify what happens. And some game-term which I export everywher like talking about the Malkavian or the lawful good

  • Does the GPL apply to content published on the fediverse? If yes we're getting a great open source model for free.

    Also obligatory fuck META

  • Reading books in English

  • Indeed, I am old enough to remember the time when delta green was just a COC sourcebook but it's a great take on COC. There is also a couple of modernized Chtulhu games, let alone non mythos horror games (Kult 😍😍😍)

  • What do you mean by “bleed potential”?

Bleed is that moment where your in-game emotion starts to mix with your IRL emotional system. A non RPG example would be crying while reading a book/wathcing a movie. The same can happen in RPG where you're feeling angry, sad, happy because your character feels so. It's something that some RPG player (Mostly narrative games and nordic LARP) players look for.

The word actually comes from nordic larp but is also commonly used in tabletop https://nordiclarp.org/wiki/Bleed

  • That's a tricky question, but let's try-it

    1. A D20, level based, high fantasy game, so let's say D&D/Pathfinder or one of the many clones
    2. A prompt based, narrative immersive game with a lot of bleed potential let's say Alice is missing
    3. A horror games, I would say Call of Chtulhu because it's the classic one, but also to show player a percent-based skill mechanic
    4. Iron-sworn in GM-less mode, as it ticks both the narrative consequence driven game (PBTA) and the GM-less box
    5. A sci-fi game, in order to get a recent design, and a sample of dice pool I would say Coriolis

Only 5 games is actually quite restrictive, especially to show different game type and mechanics. I am a bit annoyed that I didn't found any slot for Vampire/World-of-Darkness (considering how popular is the franchise) and that Iron sworn is the only PBTA (especially considering it's not the classical PBTA) I would also love to add a Cyberpunk game (Shadowrun or Red) as it's also a popular franchise, extend the D&D clones with OSR, and add Blade in the Dark considering it's massive influence on the recent RPG scene

  • guess if you've played one variation you at least get a bit of taste of the mechanics

The thing is that there is more than just the rules, I feel like a Shadowrun or DnD player, the kind who enjoy crunch and gear will find Eclipse phase system quite OK, while a COC player will struggle with it (despite the base being almost the same, a percent roll under a skill). A bit like heavy metal and Flamenco heavily relies on guitar but are very different.

However, the more rpg you played the easiest they're to get, with 4-5 questions, you know enough to pay a session without fooling stupid

  • Depending on how you define family of systems while there is a finite way on how to roll the dice but at least for the main one, you miss

    • Dice pools with D10 (World of Darkness), D6 (Shadèwrun, Star Wars)
    • Skill (Chtulhu, Basic RPG)
    • Diceless
    • Playing cards (Deadland, castle falkenstein)

Then there is hundreds if not thousands of combination of these option making every game unique, so hard to make a count or a list
