Worse, it's taxes on poor people. Rich people don't buy anything with their money, so they're spared, but poor people are spending the money on things, and things are imported.
Rich people buy things, but not at the rate that lower income people do. A CEO who makes 1000x as much as you isn't buying 1000x as many pairs of pants, for instance. This is why sales taxes are considered regressive.
A consumption tax. A tax that hits the pocketbooks of the poorer harder and the wealthy lighter.

Honestly? I'm just glad they are realizing and suffering from it. I'm really done with the US and all the bullshit they are giving the rest of the world. At this point I only wish the country went into a bankrupt and all these fuckers went ito misery. And don't start with the "but they are a minority, not all america is like that". Minority my ass. More than half of the country actively put that cunt in the white house, by actively voting for him or not voting at all because "both sides".

The older I get the less I am able to make use of the concept of punishment or even (lasting) guilt. I mean what is even the point of punishing? It just adds more misery on top.
Don't get me wrong: It is necessary to reflect on the bad things one did. But I do not feel like guilt and shame create an environment that promotes this behaviour.
the point of punishing is that a terrifying amount of people, for whatever reason, only understand direct punishments and rewards. They need to hear everyone around them say "fuck you, you fucking suck for doing this thing, get out of my sight" or they will not change ever.
I'd rather we change the minds of the people who did vote for Trump and they have less suffering. No one should suffer, but especially not the large minority that did the right thing and voted against him, only to be lumped in with the Trump voters by peoole such as you.
If they had "less suffering", they would think everything is fine and dandy and their dipshit in chief does a fantastic job. They have been conditioned to ignore reality. They won't listen to any arguments, they'll just call them fake news. Been there, done that.
After years and years of having tried to reach these people with reason, it's time they got a reality check, even if suffering is what it takes.
No one should suffer, but especially not the huge majority that couldn't even vote because they were not citizens of the country that now is screwing them so bad.

2/3rds of the voting age population did not vote for Trump.
If you have to choose between a fascist and a non fascist politician and you decide to not vote, you are saying that it's fine getting either. So yeah, not voting is saying you are fine with Trump.
Around 20% of voting age population voted against it. The rest was either enthusiasticly pro trump, or were OK with it.

But that's not what happened. What happened is that less than half of the people who voted, did it for Harris. All those who could vote and didn't were fine with the Tangerine Mussolini getting to the white house. If they voted for Harris, we wouldn't be here now talking about how tons of americans are now discovering how everyone telling them how bad this would be for them were, in fact, right.

Canada is the largest source (just bumped to 35% tariff), followed closely by Brazil (50%). China doesn't ship much raw steel to the US to because it's terrible steel.
They should be smelting iron in their backyards!

I mean, I'm fully aware that "everything is made in China", but - to me - there's a difference in supporting a [somewhere]-based company that pays taxes [somewhere] and purchases components/manufactures in China (sending part of my money there), and buying full-on Chinese, and having 100% of my money support a genocidal government.
The sellers on AliExpress have to pay duty now. Granted, they probably declare far less than true value, but the tariffs already made prices on AliExpress increase. You just don't notice it because it's rolled into the sale price or added to taxes and shipping.
Most things I shop for on AE are around 20% higher than they were before the tariffs started and de minimis was removed. I suspect sellers were shipping from China to other countries and then to US so the tariffs wouldn't be so harsh. Now that we seem to be removing the de minimis exception from other countries, that work around could end - leading to additional price increases.
They just turn around and complain more about how much we import as being the problem, not the fact that trump’s tariffs are costing them. Not that sweeping, knee-jerk tariffs with absolutely no plan to increase US industries to compensate for supply issues is the real problem.
Almost everything we do requires imports at some level. If it's not direct ingredients, the machines we use need parts, or them themselves come in.
If we wanted to solve it in a sustainable way, take all those fucking tax cuts for the rich, make them pay taxes and start grants for entrepreneurs to start manufacturing companies until we can make metal mesh and plastic shit here again for pennies.
Make sure grants are only issued to things that are in need and that they have buyers lined up.
Well, if it isn't the consequences of his actions. He should love America more and source those materials locally.

If it was, why would they live in western Europe? My country has its flaws, but out of all the places I've visited or even lived, it's the place I think is doing stuff the best. If it wasn't, I would move elsewhere. No way I would move away from what I percieve as the best country in the world. That's just dumb.
